Shin Splints Treatment Tusmore
Shin Splints Pain (Medial Tibial Stress Syndrome)
- Do you experience a sharp pain on the inside of the shin?
- Does it intensify while running or playing sports?
- Ache the following morning or when you cool down?
- Is the inside of your shin tender to touch?
At SA Running Injury Clinic, Shin Pain is one of the top 5 injuries we frequently treat, particularly among runners and footballers.
Studies show that the condition results from the muscles pulling on their attachment to the shin bone, causing inflammation where the muscle meets the bone.
The source of this inflammation is:
- Poor foot posture – excessive pronation (rolling inward) leads to more muscle pull on the shin, while excessive supination (rigid foot type) places greater force on the shin bone itself
- Running – on hard surfaces such as asphalt roads, or pre-season on hardened grounds
- A rapid increase in run intensity or duration after a period of little training
Shin pain can severely impact your training, delaying progress by months. This unpleasant condition needs to be addressed quickly upon onset, or ideally, prevented altogether.
Many of our patients mention that after running a few kilometres or reaching half time, they can't continue. This is a significant problem that will disrupt your training plans if not addressed early.
