Ankle Sprains St Georges
Reasons for an Ankle Sprain
- Have you misjudged a step and rolled your ankle while walking or running?
- Was it landing on another person’s foot in basketball, netball, football or soccer?
- Did you hear a pop or crack?
- Is your ankle stiff from swelling and bruising, making it uncomfortable to stand or walk?
At SA Running Injury Clinic, we often see and treat ankle sprains .. they are quite common.
As described, ankle sprains are usually caused by runners or walkers misjudging a step or landing unevenly. In sports, it is often due to changing direction or landing on someone else’s foot.
Initially, you may find it hard to walk or stand and might need strapping, crutches, or a walking boot. Severe cases can involve a fracture. Sadly, an ankle sprain can raise the risk of respraining by 40 – 70%. Persistent ankle pain and stiffness, known as Sinus Tarsi Syndrome, may also develop.
We have a 5 Phase Rehabilitation Program:
